Iowa’s newest alternative energy manufacturing facility, Western Iowa Energy, will produce 30 million gallons of biodiesel annually. The process will use natural oils, such as soy oil, as well as animal fats which makes it unique from other biodiesel manufacturing facilities.

- February 2004 - Originally organized
- July 2004 - Feasibility study completed
- September 2004 - Registered as Iowa limited liability company
- October 2004 - Board organized and seed capital raised
